Winter Lace shawls in doup leno

Bead leno was my first adventure with the family of leno weaves. After some exploration, I wanted to try a version of leno that crossed warp threads in pairs, instead of the four threads that work together in bead leno. A bit of experimenting with leno pick-up convinced me it was too time-consuming for shawls or scarves. An article by Hilary Chetwynd with instructions for weaving leno with special heddles called doups led to two shawls in very different materials—one in bamboo and the other in mohair and silk.
