Creating transatlantic opportunities

When Kenichi Soga first joined the teaching staff of the engineering department at Cambridge University he thought it would be "just for a couple of years" having never been to Europe before. Having stayed for 22 years, and progressed to the post of professor of civil engineering, Soga is now returning to his Alma Mata -University of California-Berkeley - to take up the role of chancellor's professor. While it is clear he views this new position as a great opportunity to take his work at Cambridge to a wider audience, it is obvious that he is sad to be leaving both Cambridge and his colleagues there.
