State hikes nuclear plant fees to fund safety program

A bill signed by Gov. Tom Corbett (R) last week will increase fees for the state's five nuclear power plants to fund a nuclear safety program. The plants had been paying a $550,000 annual fee to the Department of Environmental Protection and a $200,000 fee to the Emergency Management Agency. Beginning in July 2015, those fees will increase to $650,000 and $275,000, respectively.
