White House's $302B bill gets House introduction

President Obama's four-year highway, rail and transit funding bill has been formally introduced in the House, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) announced yesterday. In a news release, Norton said Rep. Tom Petri (R-Wis.), the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, dropped in the bill at her request. Norton, the subcommittee's ranking member, is the original Democratic cosponsor, according to the release. The White House unveiled the $302 billion plan, dubbed the "Grow America Act," at the end of April as a proposed replacement for MAP-21, which expires at the end of September. While Norton said she prefers a six-year bill with more money, she called the administration's measure "a timely contribution ... that should provide guidance and ideas as we develop legislation to set the future course of these vital programs."
