Duke Energy Corp. is asking a Delaware judge to halt a shareholder lawsuit over a coal ash spill in North Carolina while the company battles several related lawsuits and the $102 million settlement of a federal criminal investigation. Vice Chancellor John Noble of Delaware's Court of Chancery said after hearing arguments yesterday he would consider the request to halt proceedings for six months. Noble said he would refrain from making a final decision on halting the case until after a hearing in North Carolina next week pertaining to the Department of Justice's criminal case against Duke.
