Inexperienced hikers drive up search, rescue costs at Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon National Park officials blamed mostly unprepared hikers for making 2014 the year with the most rescues since 2001. Spokeswoman Emily Davis said yesterday the park spent half a million dollars on 324 searchand- rescue operations last year, mostly for instances of fatigue, inexperience or physical inability.
