Empire State light show aims to tip domino on conservation

The plight of endangered species will stand 33 stories tall on the southern face of the Empire State Building on Saturday as part of a "weapon of mass instruction" light show, according to event organizer Travis Threlkel. Threlkel, co-founder of tech company Obscura Digital, and filmmaker and photographer Louie Psihoyos, director of the Oscar-winning documentary "The Cove," will use 40 20,000-lumen projectors stacked on a roof of a nearby building to display almost 70,000-square-foot images of snow leopards, manta rays and other endangered species to inspire action to save them. "We're going to try to create something beautiful. Not bum people out," Threlkel said. He added: "Hopefully, this is one big domino. If we can tip it, it would be great."
