Toshiba Corp. is expected to announce a $6.1 billion write-down tomorrow to cover costs at four nuclear reactor projects run by Westinghouse Electric Co., a Toshiba subsidiary. Toshiba wanted in on a nuclear power boom that never came, and a rash of missed deadlines and bad budgets sank the attempt. Toshiba may now exit the nuclear reactor industry entirely. "There's billions and billions of dollars at stake here," said Gregory Jaczko, former head of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. "This could take down Toshiba, and it certainly means the end of new nuclear construction in the U.S."
