Morgan Stanley to account for greenhouse gas emissions

Morgan Stanley will become the first major U.S. bank to commit to publicly disclosing the greenhouse gas emissions from its lending portfolio through the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials, a milestone as financial institutions around the world face more scrutiny for their carbon-intensive investments. The group represents a coalition of 66 other financial institutions with roughly $5.3 trillion in assets. "We are very excited about Morgan Stanley's leadership in sustainability and believe they will bring an important voice to our management group," Giel Linthorst, executive director of the PCAF secretariat, said in a statement. "As we work towards [the 2021 U.N. climate change conference], and a critical year ahead in aligning the finance sector with the goals of the Paris climate agreement, we believe that PCAF and member financial institutions will play an important leadership role in that work," he added.
