The Trump administration will once again waive dozens of environmental laws as it pursues construction of newwalls across the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge on the U.S.-Mexico border.The announcement in today's Federal Register marks the 28th waiver issued by the Department of HomelandSecurity under President Trump, according to data compiled by Defenders of Wildlife.In his decision, acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said the U.S. Border Patrol's Rio Grande Valley Sector is an"area of high illegal entry," citing more than 339,000 apprehensions in fiscal 2019 as well as drug activity.
