NPS puts brakes on off-highway vehicles in Utah

The National Park Service on Friday reversed course on a decision that would have opened its popular Utahparks to off-highway vehicles.In a statement, NPS said it would not lift a long-standing prohibition that bars off-highway and utility-terrainvehicles from traveling through parks on public roads."After further consultation between the National Park Service and the Department of Interior, including theSecretary of the Interior, the NPS today directed that all ORV closures at national park sites in Utah currently inplace will remain in effect," the statement said. The announcement echoed a memorandum sent to Utah parksuperintendents Friday.
