Market penetration of solid state disks (SSDs) remains moderate, at best, mostly because SSDs are still regarded as too costly to become mainstream mass storage devices today. However, SSDs may edge out HDDs within a few years, according to TrendFocus'report "Focus On: Solid State Drives."rnEarly-generation SSDs were too expensive and had minimal performance advantages, said John Chen, Trend-Focus senior director and SSD team leader. SSDs can cost 10 times more per GB than HDDs, and caused very little impact on the demand for HDDs through mid-2008, Chen added.
