More compact yet high-capacity units steer R&D efforts

The rapid development of portable consumer, mobile and automotive electronics is spurring China's chip capacitors industry. Eyeing broad use in DVD and MP3/MP4 players, digital cameras, handsets, computers and peripherals, and in-car devices, makers continue to direct R&D toward smaller and more lightweight configurations. Home electronics such as HDTVs and set-top boxes are also target applications. China's selection comprises MLCCs, aluminum electrolytic, tantalum and film types. Aside from miniaturization, the first category emphasizes more layers, lower voltage and greater capacity to suit portable communication devices.
