For over 25 years, the world has confronted the HIV/AIDS epidemic. During that time, millions have died and many more millions have suffered. Yet, there are some silver linings to the scourge that is HIV/AIDS. One is the relative rapidity with which scientists identified the virus and developed medications that can enable people who are infected with HIV to live productive lives. Another is the formation of a global AIDS treatment movement that has focussed attention on the need to get those drugs to those who need them globally.
