Book reviewers, like potential readers, have small rituals. The most common one consists of taking a quick look at the table of contents and browsing through the whole book, before beginning to read. When doing so, the first reaction to International Water Treaties can be dismay at the observation that nearly two-thirds of the book consists of annexes. Although it is important to make data available, the tables in annexes could have been presented in a more concise way or better integrated into the text.rnThe book nevertheless deserves our attention for several reasons. First, the topic of international water treaties is of utmost importance in the field of global environmental politics but has been poorly studied. The hydropolitics literature essentially focuses on the question of water conflicts (and in particular, the robust, but largely unfounded, "water war" theory).
