Arc&IS users now have access to SQL server 2008, which, combined with ESRI's powerful geodata management capabilities, will provide users with the tools they need to seamlessly consume, use and extend location-based analysis for enterprise-scale computing and web collaboration. Microsoft thus introduces two new, ESRI-supported spatial types, Geography and Geometry. These meet the needs of many ESRI GIS customers who have been asking for structured query language (SQL) access to spatial features stored in SQL Server, so as to integrate spatial data with other enterprise applications.
