Record-breaking Floods in Tennessee

The storm on 1st and 2nd May that brought heavy rains to the south-eastern US resulted in record high flows for many rivers in middle Tennessee, according to preliminary estimates released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Rivers in mid-Tennessee crested on 2nd and 3rd May, breaking records at many USGS-operated stream gauges. The highest stream flows were observed from Nashville west toward Jackson, extending about forty miles north and south of Interstate 40 and affecting major tributaries to the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers.
