Plans for a Tenaska clean coal power plant in Taylorville, Ill., were effectively quashed earlier this week in the Illinois state Senate by a decisive 18-33 margin. In a vote that stretched into the early hours of the morning on the last night of the Senate's session, the upper chamber voted down the bill that would have cleared the way for the construction of the $3.5 billion, 602-megawatt integrated gasification combined cycle coal-fired power plant.
