Ein unerfüllbarer, kindlicher Wunsch begleitet mich oft, wenn ich über Land fahre und mich einem Dorf nähere: Ach, könnten Bäume und Büsche, Efeu und Knöterich doch schneller wachsen! Sie wären Balsam für die Augen. Denn die Neubaugebiete, die mir als erstes entgegenprangen, sind meist keine Augenweide. Sie sehen immer so aus, wie die in jenem Dorf, aus dem ich gerade komme (und dort so, wie ein Dorf vorher...). Will man dieses Phänomen beschreiben, fällt einem spontan das Wort Monotonie ein.%Every village like the other: in their new housing estates same tedious competition of form elements. The large the oriel, the more complicated the roof, the whimsier the entrance porch - the more respect its owner seems to enjoy. Both houses »disco-vered« here are each in their own way reticent and unpretentious; in form and scale, however, they fit exemplarily in their regional surroundings - if not in their streets - without the false application of homeliness. No more than this - but also no less.
