An experimental investigation using one-and three-dimensional small-scale laboratory Unit Cell Pumping Tests was used to develop the criteria to be fulfilled by a geocomposite for the Prevention/minimisation of the formation and pumping of fines at the cohesive subgrade- Subbase/ballast interface of a highway/railway pavement. An empirical heuristic approach was Adopted in which the properties of form of the geocomposite were progressively modified in the Light of previous results until a geocomposite which gave minimal pumping was obtained.
