The Plutonio discovery, Block 18, Angola—A 3-D visualization and multiattribute approach to exploration success

Since the discovery of the Girassol and Dalia Fields in 1996, the Angolan slope basin has become a hotspot for deepwa-ter exploration. The basin's Tertiary section, characterized by an extensive system of turbidite-generated channels that traverse the paleo-Congo submarine fan, has proven highly prospective, as demonstrated by large discoveries in Miocene and Oligocene reservoirs in Blocks 14,15,17, and 18. More than 7 billion bls of oil reserves have been discovered in the deepwater of the Angolan Lower Congo basin since 1996.
