Calibration of prestack simultaneous impedance inversion using rock physics

The purpose of this paper was to demonstrate that rock physics should be used to help evaluate the results of impedance inversion. Acoustic signatures in rocks are nonunique; rock physics helps narrow down the list of possible options that need to be considered. In this particular case the reservoir is laminated, so rock physics methods designed for that environment need to be applied. We first conditioned the well logs, and then applied a laminated-sand fluid substitution to reservoir sands to define seismic signatures in the wet case as well as gas and oil cases.
