3C Seismic and VSP: Converted Waves and Vector Wavefield Applications

Gaiser wrote this book on what seems to be two separate topics - 3C reflection seismology and VSP - but he used simple logic to integrate these two topics into a common theme based on a general set of technical principles. The common theme is that surface-based 3C reflection seismology and VSP are simply different forms of multicomponent seismic data. Fundamentally, VSP and 3C seismology differ only by the position of recording sensors. As a result, anyone who acquires this book is getting two books. Portions of the book deal with 3C reflection seismology, and portions deal with VSP. Gaiser does a good job of describing principles, such as wave-propagation physics and anisotropic rock properties that apply with equal rigor to either 3C seismology or VSP. Readers will find the transitions between 3C reflection seismology and VSP topics are seamless.
