The medical industry is challenged by the presence of microorganisms and the negative effects they cause. Textiles act as a microbial harbour and offer ideal conditions for the proliferation of microorganisms that may be harmful to humans. Nosocomial infections are a serious issue for healthcare facilities. In Europe, more than 2 million patients are diagnosed with hospital-acquired infections each year.
