Combustion engines are lubricated with oil. The heat during combustion allows parts of the oil to bum as well. To make sure that these harmful substances are not emitted into the environment, burned elements, metal debris and other dirt -such as carbon black - are filtered out by the oil filter. This filtering effect must not be affected during the manufacture of filters and filter materials. That is where low-heat ultrasound technology is useful, as it has no negative effects on the materials to be bonded. Various steps can be performed using ultrasound in the manufacturing process. If the (internal) filter material contains activated carbon, cutting the folded lengths of filter material with an ultrasonic knife is the preferred method. Ultrasound is also a fitting method for the bonding of the longitudinal seam, when the folded paper is joined to the "filter star".
