It is important to understand that digital printing is not intended to replace the flexographic printing process for every label and packaging application. There will always be a need to produce the large to extremely large print runs in which both flexography and conventional offset printing technologies excel. Digital printing is, rather, a complementary technology that squarely addresses the print provider's pressing need to reduce both costs and turnaround time. This is in direct response to the changing needs and desires of its customers-the brand owners who face increasing costs and competition. Digital printing also provides an opportunity to enter new markets through new capabilities.
