So as the primary torchbearer for the New Wave planting movement - and the designer of a number of high-profile public projects in the United States, including the Lurie Garden at Millennium Park in Chicago and the Battery and the High Line in New York - Piet Oudolf could have agonized over the recent renovation of his own garden in the Netherlands.
