IQF Turkey Posts Double-Digit Sales Gain

Frozen food sales declined 1.6% to $6.3 billion for the 12 weeks that ended Jan. 22, 2006, according to Information Resources Inc., Chicago. Unit sales were down 4% to 2.4 billion. Promotional activity was 47.1%, an increase of .2 percent from the same period a year ago. The IQF turkey/turkey substitute subcategory posted a 10.6% gain to $37.7 million for the 12-week period. Units increased 4.1% to 10 million. Prepared vegetables sales were $58.4 million, a 4.6% increase. Units increased 1.7% to 31.9 million. The "other frozen foods category" also saw a 4.6% gain. Sales were $21.9 million for the 12-week period. The dinners/entrees category again registered an increase. Sales were up 2.7% to $1.3 billion although unit sales were down 2.7% to 558.4 million. The multi-serve dinners subcategory posted a 4.8% increase to $233.6 million. Unit sales were 43.1 million, a slight drop of.1%.
