MIGRATION OF BIOAVAILABLE CHEMICAL FORMS OF CHROMIUM FROM SOIL TO MEDICINAL PLANTS

A phenomenon of bioavailable chemical form migration from soil to particular morphological parts of medicinal plants was examined. The research was conducted in the area of Tarnowskie Gory and Miasteczko Slaskie. These areas are under the influence of a point emitter - smelter plant "Miasteczko Slaskie" (Southern Poland). Samples of stalk, leaves, roots and inflorescences of common mullein (Verbascum thapsiforme) and common dandelion Taraxacum officinale as well as the post-root layer of soil constituted the research material. The plants were wet-mineralized with trioxonitric (V) acid. The samples of soil became a subject to a speciation process with the Rudd's method to isolate bioavailable chemical forms of chromium compounds. The content of chromium compounds was determined with applying the atomic absorption spec-trophotometry method with Pye Unicam apparatus. Research proved that the compounds of chromium, present in soil within the area contaminated by other heavy metals, are found in a bioavailable form and in relatively great amounts. This occurrence escalated within examined area in Miasteczko Slaskie. Content of chromium in a exchangeable form in soil within the area of Miasteczko Slaskie amounted from 22,51 μgCr·g~(-1) to 23,22 μgCr·g~(-1) and within the area of Tarnowskie Gory it was from 2,95 μgCr·g~(-1)to4.17μgCr·g~(-1).
