Si Freud revient en 1927 sur «l''humour», vingt-deux ans après son ouvrage fondamental sur Le mot d''esprit, c''est parce que l''évolution de sa métapsychologie lui permet alors d''en proposer une description spécifiquement psychanalytique. De même que le mot d''esprit avait pu se révéler contribution au comique obtenu par le biais du refoulé inconscient, de même l''humour apparaît celle obtenue par la médiation du sur-moi. Mais la complexité topique et dynamique à l''œuvre dans le processus humoristique, avec le surinvestissement régressif du surmoi et la croyance/décroyance qu''il met en jeu, fait que celle avancée est plus encore une interrogation sur l''origine et l''essence du surmoi.%The fact that Freud in 1927, 22 years after his fundemental work on « Jokes », went back on what he had said about « humour », indicates that the development of his metapsycho-logy now enabled him to offer a specifically psychoanalytical description of what was at play. Just as jokes had revealed themselves to be a contribution to comic effect obtained via unconscious repression, so too humour appears to be the contradiction obtained by the mediation of the superego. The topical and dynamic complexity at work in the process of humour, together with the regressive overinvestment of the superego and the belief/disbelief it puts into play, means, however, that this furthering of the theory is really more a question about the origin and essence of the superego.
