The president of Botswana is the commander in chief of the armed forces, and he can choose to discharge his control duties directly through a Defense Council whose members he appoints. The Defense Council is chaired by the minister of defense, justice, and security. The Botswana Defense Force (BDF) is organized into three commands: Ground Forces Command, Air Arm Command, and Logistics Command.
