Sometimes at the intersection of medicine and commerce, great science can save a lot of lives—but it won't necessarily make anyone rich. Maybe saving lives should be enough. That is the story thus for at Response Oncology, the Memphis, Tenn.-based firm that operates 53 outpatient cancer centers nationwide. Unfortunately, it's a growing market: Cancer will probably overtake cardiovascular disease as the number one killer in the U.S. in a decade.
