Reflecting better times for the industry, eight technology mavens are new to the FORBES China Rich List this year. Topping the list of 100 is William Ding Lei, the head of NetEase, one of the Big Three of China's Internet industry. China's geeks are on a roll because of the country's rapid economic growth―running at 8% this year―tremendous social change and deepening involvement in the world economy. With China's vast population, its consumers have turned the country into the world's number one user of mobile phones. China has the second-biggest base of installed PCs and the third-largest number of Internet users. It's difficult to walk down a major street in the big cities and not see someone using messaging technology.
