In the earliest days of the PGA TOUR, staging a tournament had the improvisational air and folksy energy of Mickey Rooney in one of his 1940s Andy Hardy movies, getting all the kids together to "put on a show." Over the many years since, the enthusiasm has remained, unquestionably, but most of the details have changed significantly. Tournaments are definitely not held in the high school gymnasium anymore, so to speak, and the kids aren't asking the local pharmacist to put up a few bucks for costumes. In short, the PGA TOUR now runs like the remarkably professional organization it is.
