As soon as rachel boland of west Palm Beach, Fla. got engaged to Deane Shughart, she became a regular fixture on theknot.com. Boland spent an hour every day on the wedding-planning site, where she found a wedding gown—one of 20,000 pictured there—reception hall, garter and videographer for her $30,000 July 4 wedding. Her association with the Knot didn't end when she got hitched. Boland, 27, is still among the 2 million people every month who visit the company's flagship site, where she posts pictures and offers wedding advice through online chats with brides-to-be—so-called Knotties. She flits between it and thenest.com, the New York company's site for newlyweds. When she becomes pregnant, Boland will migrate to the Knot's upcoming page for first-time parents.
