Walk into 3x1, a new shop in Manhattan's SoHo, and you may discover a team of patternmakers, sewers and designers putting together a pair of jeans right in the middle of the store. The company offers limited-edition dungarees sewn on-site from $295. But for customers who want something truly special, 3x1 will create a one-off trouser completely from scratch. The cost: $1,200. The mind behind 3x1 is fashion entrepreneur Scott Morrison. "I always wanted to show people the craft and beauty behind a pair of jeans—the stuff that got me so passionate about it in the first place," the 39-year-old says.
