The latest data from the Edison Electric Institute shows that approximately 36 million smart meters are now installed nationwide, covering nearly a third of all the households in the United States. The total is up sharply from just a year ago, when only 25% of the nation's consumers had a smart meter, and clearly indicates that the rebuilding of the nation's transmission and distribution system is well under way. Indeed, we are moving to a digital electric future.
