The world slows down at 260kph in an open-wheel formula car on the backstraight of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. For a few seconds you can actually relax-well, sort of. There's a kilometer of straight track before the next corner, so all you need to do is drive in a straight line. The early-morning sun skitters through the grandstands, creating a calming, strobe-like effect. A tornado-force wind pushes your crash helmet into the headrest, but you're strapped in so tightly you hardly notice.
