Differences between footwear occurred at the ankle in the sagittal and frontal plane as seen with the SVM approach, indicating that ankle joint movements are most sensitive to the tested shoe interventions. This may suggest that shoe interventions primarily have local effects on the most proximal joint to the shoe while the main running movement is minimally affected. However, the discrete method was not able to identify differences due to the shoe intervention.
