In most team sports, multidirectional movements are a key component to performance. Better performance in multidirectional movements is an advantage for athletes that might decide between win or lose in different scenarios. Previous studies investigated the kinematics during 90° cutting maneuvers (CMs) and have shown inter-individual differences especially during the transition step (TS) (David, Mundt, Komnik, & Potthast, 2018), which allows us to group athletes based on movement strategy. Since performance is not only dependent on biomechanical factors (Marshall et al., 2014) but also on the shoe to ground interaction (Luo & Stefanyshyn, 2011), this descriptive study investigated foot kinematics at touchdown (TD) of the TS. More insight into foot kinematics during CMs can help inform performance footwear and identify future research opportunities.
