Food Labeling in Germany Including European Union Aspects

With increasing globalization of the food industry in mind, the authors survey German laws and regulations and European Union Directives related to food labeling. Rules and laws prohibiting the adulteration of specific foods have existed since the Middle Ages. For example, the legislation of the city of Soest in 1120 stated, "Who mixes rotten wine with good wine is punished with the death penalty."
