IN 2003: Salaries highest in Far West region

Foodservice directors in the Northwest and Pacific coastal states enjoy the highest salaries in non-commercial foodservice, according to FoodService Director's 2003 Compensation Study. They also received a healthy raise in pay of nearly 6%. But the largest pay boost - 9.5% - was earned by fsds in the Southeast, followed by those in the Northeast. The average salary for a non-commercial fsd was $54,405 this year, with men earning about 27% more, on average, than women. More women hold the top foodservice position in hospitals and schools, while more men head up food-service in corporate dining and higher education. This year, for the first time, men and women are equally represented in the corrections market.
