Healthy products are showing slight increases at the slots, according to vending industry market research. "When comparing 'healthy' items to all other items in the total glass-front snack machine category, their unit share increased .53% for a total of an 8.86% share, while the rest of the items in the glass-front snack machine share decreased by the same amount to a 91.14% share," states Shannon Cul-linane, marketing analyst at InfoVend, a vending purchase tracking service based in Norwood, MA. "But, we see that healthy items in categories such as bars, cookies and crackers are performing better than their respective categories," she adds. "For example, we see that healthy bars' share change has increased by .25% while the category as a whole has only increased by .05%. Some of the top-selling items within this category include Nutri-Grain Bars and Nature Valley Granola Bars." "In the cookies and crackers category, we found that the healthy items share increased by .29% while the category as a whole only grew .02%. Some of the top-selling items in this category include Reduced Fat Austin Peanut Butter Crackers and Reduced Fat Austin Cheese Crackers."
