Sprint World HQ in Overland Park, KS may not be Oz, and Julie Gray, Ara-mark's resident district mgr., may not be Dorothy - but if sparkly red shoes had been clicked together and wishes made, this K-State dietetics grad would probably have wound up here. With 21 buildings nestled into a 200-acre campus and a population of 13,500, Sprint may be no place like home, yet it's come to feel like it over the past two years since Gray first arrived in October 2001. The challenges of ramping-up new operations while simultaneously "downsizing" (seemingly a contradiction in terms) have been many, albeit rewarding, she confides. "There were layoffs within the first month, so I had to look at how to do more with less. The first area I looked at was streamlining menus to ultimately reduce labor," she recalls.
