Already making strong inroads in the home market, the next generation of single-serve coffee machines-which provide consumers with a high-quality, espresso-style brewed cup of coffee in 30 seconds by means of a pre-portioned coffee "pod"-will probably hit the non-commercial market's coffee stations sometime this fall, industry experts predict. "Pod use for office workers will increase as coffee service operators meet the demand from customers who want the pod system," states Roger Stewart, coffee services manager for the National Automatic Merchandising Association, in Grand Rapids, ML "The machinery will be much more substantial than home models to withstand higher use."
