Package is an integral part of product what causes that development of food industry is determined by the progress in the field of packages. This progress is developing in three major directions: increase of package quality, being adjusted to the needs of the product and consumer's requirements, development of packaging materials and packages, and limitation of threats, resulting from the application of packages. The article presents the selected examples, illustrating the above statements, indicating the higher and higher specialization in the field of packages for the food products.%Dwudziesty wiek niewątpliwie kończy się pod znakiem jakości; opracowano wiele systemów jakości, takich jak GMP, HACCP, czy też normy ISO. Istotnym elementem zachowania jakości produktu, w tym szczególnie produktu spożywczego, jest opakowanie. Opakowanie stanowi podstawowy element ochrony i jest pierwszym czynnikiem chroniącym produkt przed zagrożeniami zewnętrznymi i wewnętrznymi.
