Listeria Controls Revisited

On March 23, 2010, nearly a year to the day after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) implemented its Meat Hygiene Directive entided "Control Measures for Listeria in Ready-to-Eat (RTE) meat products," Health Canada's Bureau of Microbial Hazardsrnposted on its website a draft of a "Policy on Listeria mono-cytogenes in Ready-to-Eat Foods." The authors of the document, we are told, are Health Canada, the CFIA and the Public Health Agency of Canada. A number of proposals in this latest policy draft are significantly different from the measures implemented by the CFIA on April 1, 2009. Following are some highlights.
