I.G.C. sees smaller corn and wheat crops in 2017-18, but a new record for soybeans

The International Grains Council on March 30 forecast world wheat and corn production to decline in 2017-18, but soybean production was expected to rise and set a new record. The I.G.C. forecast world wheat production in 2017-18 at 734-5 million tonnes, down 3% from a record 753.7 million tonnes in 2016-17. The I.G.C. forecast smaller crops for the United States, Russia, Australia, Canada, Argentina and Kazakhstan, among principal exporters. An exception to the downtrend was the European Union-28, where production was forecast to rise 4% from 2016, to 150.3 million tonnes from 144.7 million tonnes.
