American Licorice acquires vegan candy maker

American Licorice Co., maker of the Red Vines and Sour Patch brands, has acquired Torie & Howard, a New Milford, Conn.-based confectionery brand. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.Launched in 2012 by co-founders Torie Burke and Howard Slatkin, Torie & Howard offers a range of hard and chewy candies made with organic ingredients. Its products are allergen friendly, non-GMO, vegan and gluten-free.Ms. Burke will join the American Licorice team to contim developing the brand, the company said.
