Cardington hangar saved

The local authority in Bedfordshire gave permission for a new 4OG-plus dwelling development at the former Cardington airfield on October 15. The plans had been put forward by Frontier Estates and included the £6m refurbishment of the historic No.1 Shed, which will be used for storage, distribution and occasional film and TV location work. This enormous hangar had been placed on the English Heritage 'Buildings at Risk' register earlier in the year, amid fears for its future. It is hoped that the much-needed overhaul will start in the spring.
